The first and most important difference between an outlet store and a traditional retail store is that the outlet store is directly owned by the company that makes the goods that are sold there. A retail store may sell products manufactured by several different brands in their shop, but the outlet store is selling only one brand's products, because the outlet is owned by the brand.
The next most important difference is that the outlet store is not selling the newest products made by that brand. Some brands have their own retail stores that only sell their latest things, like Louis Vuitton, for example. Louis Vuitton also has outlet stores, however, that sell last year's Vuitton products.

The Products Sold at Outlet Stores Are Not the Latest Products but They Are Much Cheaper.

The products sold at outlet stores are generally last year's things that did not sell out. The products are no longer the very latest thing, but they are still good and they have never been used, so the brand doesn't want to just throw them away or put them in a warehouse somewhere. So, they sell them at the outlet store.
Usually, these products are sold at a heavy discount, and sometimes there are even sales that are offered on top of the discounts! This means that it may be possible to buy a dress or a handbag at half the cost that it used to have at a retail store when it first came out. These products have never been used, so they are not second-hand. However they are also not the most recent products that the brand has made, so you will not find the products for this season or even this year at the outlet store.

The Products Sold at Outlet Stores May Not Be of the Same Quality As Those Sold in Retail Stores.

Some outlet stores, like those that sell clothing and fashion accessories, may sell products that are of a slightly lower quality than those offered at a retail store.
If you are buying clothing at an outlet, it may have a lower thread count than the clothes as retail store. You will probably not be able to find any problem with the goods sold at an outlet, but you should still check them out very carefully before buying them just to make sure they are good.
Also, if you buy a dress or a suit at an expensive retail store, the store may be willing to alter the clothes to fit you better. If you buy them at an outlet store, the outlet is usually not willing to do this. You are buying the clothes as they are.
